Ashima Shiraishi’s lucky streak continues, Claire Buhrfeind and Yoshiyuki Ogata collect the twin pack as well
When Ashima Shiraishi won the Boulder world championships title last week it was announced that she was undefeated in the Youth World Climbing Championships. Tonight, she managed to defend her title in Lead too. She fell at the same hold as her team mate Brooke Raboutou, but because of her superior time at the semi- finals she got to collect the gold medal. Lead ace Nolwenn Arc secured the bronze medal. The new world champion said afterwards: “I am just happy that I made it. It is astounding. This route really was not easy!”. Among the boys Shuta Tanaka (JPN) climbed much better than his competitors and won the title before Nathan Martin (FRA) and Mikel Linacisoro. The favoured Filip Schenk sadly made a mistake in the middle of the route, which cost him a lot of strength, therefore he had to settle for the 4th place.
Among the Juniors Claire Buhrfeind won gold, just like she already did with Bouldering. In the discipline Speed she came in fourth, after three Speed specialists. Therefore, she has three first spots in the Olympic Format Combined, which is an incredible achievement. Aika Tajoma (JPN) won silver and Eloise Doumont (BEL) bronze. Among the Juniors Yoshiyuki Ogata (JPN) won gold, Meichi Narasaki (JPN) silver and was closely followed by Kai Lightner (USA).
