Innsbruck: Tonight the best athletes of the category Youth B (U16) competed over the medals in Lead. It was the first Lead final at this World Championship and the first international final at the Lead wall in the brand new Kletterzentrum Innsbruck. The crux of the boys' route was at the very top, which resulted in a final that stayed thrilling until the very end for the many spectators.
Japanese are busy collecting medals
The Japanese clearly dominated tonights competition, just like they did with the Bouldering competition. The girls podium of the category Youth B was an all- Japanese matter. Ai Mori won in front of Natsuki Tanii and the Boulder world champion (U16) Futaba Ito. All three of them reached the top, which is why the results of the semi- finals had to be used to separate the top three.
Among the boys the only one to reach the top was the 13- year old American Colin Duffy from Colorado. He won gold before the Spaniard Alberto Ginés López and Hidemasa Nishida (JPN). In the summer Duffy claimed that his biggest goal was to take part in the Climbing Youth World Championships. After his first final he said: “I feel amazing. It is kind of surreal right now, the fact that I am world champion. Since the day I started climbing I just wanted to have fun with it and do well in competitions. It is amazing!”
Tomorrow: Lead finals of the category Youth A and Juniors
Tomorrow, Friday the 8th of September, the last rounds of the Lead competition are on the program. At noon the climbers of the category Youth A will do their best in the semi- final. At 7 pm the Youth A will compete over the medals followed by the Juniors.
